Itsuko said they came to Devil's Lake for a weekend visit to escape the busy life of suburban Chicago. "It's so beautiful," she said as she looked across the lake.

St. Paul resident Steve Johnson could be found walking across the parking lot with a coil of rope draped around his chest. He said he worked for a summer in 1970s as a ranger, and comes back regularly to visit it with his family and do some rock climbing.
